THEY WON'T EVEN ALLOW GUYS AND GIRLS TO TALK WITH EACH OTHER.

To be honest with you, this is an issue that I have been tormented by for more than half of my school life. I wouldn't be talking about this with you guys if I hadn't heard testimony from people in other institution about the same issue tormenting their school life. This issue people can refer to has a failure of coeducation especially in today's schools.

 So, if you are still wondering what this issue is even after reading the title, let me bring you up to speed, the issue is that even in these modern times coeducational institution is preventing interaction between girls and guys. Maybe this isn't an issue in your school but trust me it is an issue encountered in many schools where the interaction is prevented both the faculty as well as the rules in these institutions.If you aren't already acquainted with the flaws of this method I would love to make it known to you, but before that let me share with you my own story that prompted me to bring forward this issue

 

So, I have been studying in coeducational systems from the very day I entered my first school, my parents, like everyone else's took this decision for me, keeping in mind all its merits(Obviously, they put thought into this decision, They knew a co-ed system would help me to interact with my female counterparts and would help me in real life situation.)but little did they know what today's co-ed has become

    "CO-ED SCHOOLS ARE JUST SAME-SEX SCHOOLS IN A ELABORATE AND ALMOST DECEPTIVE DISGUISE"

Without going over too many useless details let me tell you the event that got on my nerves. So, the school I have been studying in is Co-education, I have been studying here for a good number of years. through the years I have seen how much of a co-education it is, like a good no of schools we have gender segregation but now it is getting to an extreme for anyone to bear .we have almost a large ratio of teachers who would go above and beyond to prevent students of the opposite gender from conversing, The stupidest thing is they are using the official school rule book to try and make this a bigger issue then it is...If you don't trust me to let me write to u some of the rules from school handbook, alongside the way these rules are being used and the punishment subjected on students based on these rules(trust me this would give u a much more clear picture of what I want to covey)

 to make you understand the gravity of the situation; let me highlight some of the violations that are set in our rule book and how these are being used by some members of the school body to restrict the interactions, 

Firstly, I would like to remark the fact that these violations are of three-level based on the severity but they do have one thing in common the fact that they are being used to restrict interactions between guys and girls

 

LEVEL 1 VIOLATIONS:

these are violations are described as those that offend the sanctity of the establishment

the rule/violation in this that is quite often used to stop the guys and girls from even talking is refereed to as 'called the disturbing rule' which states that disturbing a fellow student in class by talking to them is a level 1 violation

surely on the surface of it, it seems like nothing but this rule has been used on multiple occasion to prevent people of the opposite sex from even conversing with each other

According to the rule, the 'disciplinary intervention 'for this violation include

• student being referred to the academic authorities
• writing of an apology letter
• verbal warning
• the record is presented to the principal
• parent being summoned and notified alongside a brief suspension.

etc

I have gotten one of these disciplinary interventions,which was a warning since I was a senior in school this warning that I got and I quote"If I ever see you again talking to that girl I will take you to the vice-principal and your parents will be summoned, The most ridiculous thing about this even was that the girl I was talking to was my actual biological sister, I didn't even know how to react to that. I had been warned for talking to my sister and they had threatened to call both our parents if this continues(boy oh! boy what shock would they have gotten)They assumed that since we were talking there is something out of order going on. Let me not get carried away thinking about this and continue to list the other level of violation 

LEVEL 2 VIOLATIONS:

These violations are those which are associated with any behaviour which seriously disturbs or interfere with the effective functioning of the school

One of the most beautiful violations(sarcastically speaking) transcribed in this is.

Something that is known as 'distraction violation' which states that disturbing a student of the opposite gender is a violation.

This is one of the most favoured violations used to prevent interaction. Since during my time in school, I have seen this been used extensively. I remember one time when one of my friends went to complement one of our female classmates for winning an award the teachers used this rule to their advantage and had the guy kicked out of the class for a whole period.

another violation in this level is something we call 'crush violation'

this states that no student should exhibit inappropriate display of affection or having an unhealthy association

Guys lets are real here who here hasn't had a crush on a fellow student very small amount would say they haven't so I don't feel that I need to explain why this rule has no basis

Somehow this rule is so undefined that this is often used by some teachers to remove personal grudge on their student because somehow only the students get caught for this

THE PUNISHMENT FOR SUCH ACT RANGE FROM COUNSELING TO EVEN EXPULSION

 THERE IS EVEN A 3RD LEVEL OF VIOLATION BUT I WOULDN'T WANT TO GET INTO IT NOW BECAUSE I FEEL YOU GUYS HAVE GOT AN IDEA F WHAT I MEAN.

FAILURE OF CO-EDUCATION....?

I THINK SO,

SOMEHOW CO-ED SYSTEM ( THE SCHOOLS THAT I AM REFERRING TO ESPECIALLY) PRESENT, A PARADOX -PARENTS PUT THEIR CHILDREN IN A COED BECAUSE THEY WANT THEIR KIDS TO BE COMFORTABLE AROUND THEIR COUNTERPARTS AND THAT IT WOULD BE MUCH EASIER FOR THEM TO INTERACT IN THE REAL WORLD SITUATIONS( BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT IN REAL WORLD SITUATION WERE BOTH MEN AND WOMEN SHARE A PLACE OF WORK IT ISN'T POSSIBLE TO SURVIVE WITHOUT INTERACTION) BUT THESE COEDUCATION INSTITUTIONS ITSELF RESTRICT INTERACTIONS.

THIS MAKES US ASK AN IMPORTANT QUESTION" WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN COEDUCATION AND AN ALL BOYS OR AN ALL GIRLS SCHOOL?"

NO DIFFERENCE CURRENTLY IN MAJORITY OF SCHOOLS IN INDIA.

WHY IS THIS A ISSUE, SOME MAY ASK ?, WELL

• EARLY ON WE ARE PUNISHED TO SIT NEXT TO OPPOSITE GENDER, THIS CAUSES A ALMOST UNHEALTHY ASSOCIATION TO DEVELOP WHEN PEOPLE EARLY ON RECOGNIZE THE INTERACTION WITH A PERSON OF DIFFERENT SEX AS A PUNISHMENT.
• THE EFFECTS BECAUSE OF THIS LIMITED INTERACTION IT BECOMES DIFFICULT FOR US ESPECIALLY A INTROVERT LIKE ME TO START A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE OF AN OPPOSITE GENDER
• HOW DO YOU EXPECT PEOPLE TO BE LIBERAL WHEN THEY WOULDN'T EVEN BE ABLE TO CONVEY OR TALK TO A PERSON OF OPPOSITE SEX.
• I WASN'T EVEN ALLOWED TO TO TALK TO MY SIS. THINK ABOUT IT, IF EVEN I AM RESTRICTED FROM INTERACTING WITH A PERSON WHOM I SHARE DNA WITH. WHAT IS THE SICK IDEOLOGY THAT THE PEOPLE WHO RESTRICT these INTERACTIONS HAVE DEVELOPED TO OPPOSE THIS'
• GUYS EVEN IF THEY WERE ONLY CONVERSING ABOUT THE SUBJECT MATTER WOULD BE AFRAID OF BEING CAUGHT TALKING TO A GIRL, WHICH SURELY WILL AFFECT THEM.
• SEPARATE SECTION OF BENCHES. THIS IS A THING I HAVE SEEN, NO WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF U ALLOW THEM TO SIT TOGETHER AND NOT FORM A PHYSICAL GA THAT COULD LEAD TO AN MENTAL GAP TOO.
• WHERE DO YOU THINK THE IDEA OF SEGREGATION CAME ABOUT?
• EVEN THOUGH THESE SCHOOLS ARE MEANT TO HELP IN TRANSITIONING US TO A GENDER NEUTRAL WORLD THIS PURPOSE ISN'T BEING MET. REALLY IF THE SCHOOLS WANT TO PROVE THAT BOTH GUYS AND GIRLS ARE EQUAL THAN WHY THIS NARKY RULE.
• SOMEHOW, THEY THINK 2 PEOPLE OF OPPOSITE GENDER INTERACTING IS DETRIMENTAL WHICH CAUSES THEM TO COME UP WITH WILDER THEORIES.
• AND FOR PREVENTING THIS THE PEOPLE AND TEACHERS AT SCHOOL WITH THEIR OLD PHILOSOPHY START TO ACT AS CONSERVATIVES THE VERY THING THAT OUR SCHOOLS HAVE TO PREVENT IF THEY CAN'T DO THIS WHAT IS THE BASIS OF HAVING A MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM.
• EVEN IN A COUNTRY LIKE INDIA, WHERE ALL INDIANS ARE BRO AND SIS IN ACCORDANCE TO THE PLEDGE AND ALSO THE VERY PLACE WHERE IT IS LEGAL FOR OPPOSITE GENDER TO RESIDE TOGETHER THESE RESTRICTIONS ARE IMPOSED
• A MENTAL GAP DEVELOPS......
• THESE ARE THE SAME INSTITUTIONS THAT TELL THEY STAND FOR FEMINISM BUT THIS IS WHAT THEY DO WHEN THEY SEE TWO PEOPLE OF OPPOSITE GENDER INTERACTING.
• I PROMISE YOU THIS FEMINISM WOULD BE A MUCH BIGGER SUCCESS IF THE COEDUCATION AREN'T SO HYPOCRITICAL
• THIS IS A BATTLE WHERE BOTH THE SIDES ARE VICTIM...I HAVE SEEN THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE COMFORTABLE AROUND PEOPLE OF OPP GENDER ARE THOSE WHO HAD A OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT MAYBE IN A CLASS WHERE THE TEACHER DOESN'T RESTRICT SUCH INTERACTIONS
• IF U WOULD SEE STATS THE GENDER-BASED CRIMES SUCH AS EVE TEASING IS LESSER IN A SETTING OF INTERACTION AND WHERE BOTH THE GENDER TYPES HAVE ACQUIRED A WAY TO TALK TO EACH OTHER
• A DISTRACTION THEY SAY....REALLY HALF OF THE CLASS IS DISTRACTED.SO WHAT DISTRACTION?
• INAPPROPRIATE CONVERSATION. I DON'T FEEL THAT REQUIRES INTERACTION BETWEEN PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT SEX, THAT'S BASED ON A SMALL GROUP.
• WHAT IF THEY GET MARRIED, I DON'T THINK THIS IS A ISSUE OF CONCERN AT ALL.
• IN MY SCHOOL TALKING TO A GIRL YOUNGER TO ME IS PERCEIVED TO SUCH A BIG CRIME THAT MANY PEOPLE GIRLS AND BOYS ALIKE USE THE PHRASE' AS IF WE WILL BECOME PREGNANT TO EMPHASIS THIS TO OTHERS.DO WE WANT THIS TO BE THE THE EMPHASIS
• GF -BF INTERACTION THEY SAY IS A REASON TO STOP THE INTERACTION, HOW STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE, IF THEY LIKE THEY WILL FIND A SOLUTION TO INTERACT, IT ISN'T THAT SCHOOL IS THE ONLY PLACE FOR THIS.
• DANGEROUS IDEAS AND INTERESTS...THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE WILL DEVELOP IN BOTH THE MINDS OF THE STUDENT AND THE OPPRESSORS ALIKE. (A WAY TO JUSTIFY THEIR ACTIONS.
• THE VERY FACT THAT SEX RELATED CRIMES ARE THERE IN INDIA SHOWS THAT WHAT THEY ARE DOING ISN'T RIGHT.....THE FACT THAT A GREAT NO OF THESE CRIMES ARE BY PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ANTIQUATED WITH THE PEOPLE PROVES THIS.
• WE SEE THAT MOST OF THE PROGRESS IN WESTERN COUNTRIES WHICH INDIANS ASSOCIATE WITH WESTERN EDUCATION ALSO HAS A GOOD ASPECT OF THIS INTERACTION AND DEVELOPED COUNTRIES ACKNOWLEDGE THIS.
• HOW CAN YOU GUYS PROMISE A GOOD EDUCATION IN A CO-EDUCATION WITHOUT THIS.
• THE VERY FACT THAT MOST OF THE KIDS IN MUSIC OR FRENCH ARE THE ONES THAT ARE MORE COMFORTABLE IN INTERACTION ( AT LEAST IN MY SCHOOL) PROVES A GOOD NO OF POINTS BECAUSE THESE ARE NORMALLY GENDER NEUTRAL AND FORWARD THINKING CASES.
• REALLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
• do we want to propagate a sexist agenda?
• prejudice can be abolished, even at a grass root level this interaction is being
• GUIDANCE IS IMPORTANT BUT INTENT AND TYPES OF RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE AT LEAST BE THOUGHT OUT AND NOT BASED ON FANTASIES.

I AM QUITE ASHAMED THAT THIS IS A ISSUE ALTOGETHER

TEACHERS RARELY TRUST GUYS OR GIRLS WHO TALK TO OPP GENDER

HOW SHOULD WE BE ABLE TO ASSOCIATE TRUST

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I AN A LOT OF COMMON JOE'S LIKE ME WOULD HAVE PUT FORWARD BUT WHO WOULD LISTEN TO US.

is society becoming a forward-thinking society? In my opinion, this process is hindered by problems like these.

they are censoring our life.

I STILL REMEMBER THE VERY FIRST SPEECH THAT I HEARD IN MY INTRO CLASS OF BY 11TH GRADE WAS GIVEN BY A TEACHER WHO HIGHLIGHTED WHY WE SHOULDN'T INTERACT WITH THE PEOPLE OF OPPOSITE SEX( LIKE REALLY, THIS ISN'T SOMETHING I WANT TO HEAR)

WHY CALL THE INSTITUTION A CO-EDUCATION IF YOU won't EVEN ALLOW GUYS AND GIRLS TO INTERACT?

EVERY SINGLE BOY'S MEETING WE ARE WARNED NOT TO INTERACT WITH GIRLS THIS IS TREATED AS A CRIME.

interaction in co-education decrease leads to limited interaction in the real world or industrial school

alienation and lead to an awkward interaction

now, it has become difficult to distinguish a co-education from a single ed school because now co-ed has just become a single-sex school like society

another thing that people don't realize is that if a kid is getting subjected to punishments for such issues over a while the result can be detrimental (I have come across one such incident where the student felt it would be better to take her own life than being continuously tortured by the school for talking with a guy)
