Moral policing: Rights and Wrongs (part 1: the intro)

 Disclaimer: This blog is an attempt to look at both sides of the coin of moral policing and will investigate talk about the different aspects of moral policing including the aspect of when it is acceptable and when it is not so if you were looking for a blog completely talking about or ranting about the rants of moral policing We are really sorry to inform you that this blog will explore it from every angle possible and to do so we too have to explore circumstances where this is justified if this is something you are interested in I would advise you to read on;

So, have you ever been stopped from doing something or wearing particular articles of clothing by someone else? ( most probably a stranger who when confronted about their words would have one of the set answers) It is against our "culture". It is indecency. It is unacceptable in today's society.

 If this has happened to you or if this is something you too have partaken in then; It would be safe to assume that you have a first-hand experience of what is known as moral policing.

 I know that most of you have either one of the following opinions about the aspects of moral policing either you are for it or are against its concept through my research too it was difficult for me to find people in neutral grounds about this.So, some might be wondering why this is an article of discussion being a resident Indian we can assure you that is a important issue here at least and if you haven't been living in a cave in India with no access to the news you would agree with me the aspect of moral policing is a part of each family and we know for an instance that atleast once in a month at the least one news agency covers one of the stories about this with multiple viral videos tooo emerging regarding this issue at hand so this time the issue that came up amidst all this Bollywood drama was that of an Indian actress(who shall remain nameless atleast in this blog) who was assaulted by some people including a Politician ( WHO ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT REPORT IS ARRESTED FOR THIS ACT OF MORAL POLICING) because of the fact that she chose to wear an attire for workout which consisted of tights and a sports bra and audience we know what your thinking right now really is this all since a good number of the blog is read by international users which includes countries where this attire wouldn't even raise eyebrows. We would like to confirm that this was indeed the issue that the actress was assaulted for wearing that choice of clothing in a public park for the sake of workout and trust me this issue just escalated with the female Politician's moral policing which to some seemed like a way of taking advantage of the situation in India to garner support to her and her followers assaulting the actress and her friends ...the police were asked to step in to neutralize the situation Instagram helped this story reach out to fans of the actress a youth to and continues with both parties accusing each other of doing this for the sake of publicity..... but at the end of the day people were divided in support for both the actress and the politician based one question and you guessed it the attire was the thing that was questioned from questions like should she have worn such an attire? to questions like why shouldn't she be allowed to wear the attire of her choice, it isn't even a bad work out attire? to questions like where do you think, she brought the sports bra? we would love one.

. Thus once again moral policing is the highlighted issue over here and if you would have read the article from the start you would know that this isn't an isolated incident ......but the thing is even though the actress was assaulted this isn't the worst thing that has happened if you would analyse just India with its 28 states you would see that this moral policing is a menace in some states more than others but the outcome of this would be based on the approach or the issue that is being policed for exam if you would check out some of the states moral policing is done on issues like child marriage which is illegal in India and the result of this ultimately is the aversion of a crime while in many others moral policing is done mostly regarding the "western" elements and when such thing persist and groups and political parties are involved we have seen this going out of hand even if you guys chose to do self research on this topic you would find instances from girl committing suicide because of threats to her family by some particular groups like the RS* ( the last letter isn't *) this was because of a picture of her holding hands wit a guy of the opposite religion surfaced and the action of hers were condemned you would also read about instances of full fledged protestst of we would like to highlight one it would be the incident of protests against valentines day and no we are not kidding this took an ugly turn when couples and shops were attacked.The ridiculous thing is even PDA (public display of affection) which include acts like kissing, hugging and even holding hand yes, HOLDING HANDS even between couples who are married is considered a taboo act so much so that a good number of moral policing cases can be seen.It isn't like people haven't tried to fight back against this even campaigns fall short in a country.We do realise that you guys might be feeling that we are still only bitching about moral policing believe us that isn't our intension, we are surely going to explore the good side of some moral policing incidences, the thing is the material for that is few are far lesser. We would take this platform too to share with you people how news agencies the good ones like NDTV have some great sting operations that you can check out where they do take moral policing to the streets and check peoples reaction to these instances so shout out to them.

 for a job well done.

So, if you don't know what moral policing still is and you decide to Wikipedia search it, you would find articles about moral police which over there are referred to vigilante groups that act to enforce the so-called codes of morality and these groups are responsible to deem thing moral or immoral and/or whether they are against our culture or not a way we would agree that a larger instance of moral policing is done by these groups but still, a question lingered in our mind whether is there a right way of moral policing or a right reason or situation where moral policing is something that can be accepted so to dig deeper we sort out to ask people for their opinion about moral policing and whether if there is a right situation where this is acceptable and since the answers alongside our other research were very interesting we would like to share it with you folks

So, if you are still convinced that moral policing is still always wrong and unacceptable in any situation we would like you to reconsider surely even we do see how the wrongs of moral policing outweigh the good but that being said there are some exceptions ( of which we will elaborate upon later) since an example would be better to at least momentarily put forward this point I would like to bring to light the fact that in a good number of the region around the world the sale and distribution of unethical magazines to the underaged teen was stopped or restrictions were based on the distribution of such magazines due to moral policing efforts and we don't think we have to point out why this was a good thing, right

 While doing our research for you guys we came across a pretty good argument

So, if you have heard about instances of moral policing you surely would have heard that one of the arguments put forward by this moral police when they are restricting people from doing something is

"This is against our culture"......

but, as you can see the term against our culture can be sort of vague since not everyone follows the same culture even based on ancestry and region where one lives. Since most cultures differ So if every single culture is considered than then we wouldn't even be able to find one food source to consume without offending or violating one of these cultures. We know one of the questions in our mind after reading that above-mentioned one would be can food be something that can be subjected to moral policing?

To which our reply would come in forms of a dare... So we would dare you to come to our country and ask for a "Hamburger". The reactions you get based on this would be the answer to that question. But, do be advised against doing this and do it at your own risk as in many regions people have been lynched and brutally tortured just being suspected of possession of this kind of red meat.

We know a lot of you would love to read on about our take on this issue but after having gotten suggestions from a good number of you that the articles would be better if they weren't so long and had more insight. So, we have come to a consensus to make this edition a part series about moral policing with this being an intro. We would love it if we could get you guys sharing your opinion about the topic itself and put forward a stand on this so we would love it if you would do so in the comment that being said we do have a good social media presence so if you would like to check out our new posts get updates do follow us on Insta, Twitter, etc .to do so click on the link below or search for one_with_the_millions .(p.s. we are open with people sharing experiences with us through DM's so if you guys need someone to talk too we would love to be that someone)
